Testing General Relativity with LAGEOSs and Ajisai laser-ranged satellites

چکیده
The accuracy reached in the past few years by Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) allows for measuring even tiny features of the Earth’s gravitational field predicted by Einstein’s General Relativity by means of artificial satellites. The gravitomagnetic dragging of the orbit of a test body is currently under measurement by analyzing a suitable combination of the orbital residuals of LAGEOS and LAGEOS II. The lower bound of the error in this experiment amount to 12.92%. It is due to the mismodeling in the even zonal harmonics of the geopotential which are the most important sources of systematic error. A similar approach could be used in order to measure the relativistic gravitoelectric pericenter shift in the field of the Earth with a lower bound of the systematic relative error of 6.59 · 10−3 due to the even zonal harmonics as well. The inclusion of the ranging data to the Japanese passive geodetic satellite Ajisai would improve such limits to 10.78% and 8.1 · 10−4 respectively.

Recent Developments in Testing General Relativity with Satellite Laser Ranging
The last decade can be characterized by an impressive diversity of techniques monitoring the artificial and natural satellite dynamics, as well as the Earth rotation: improved laser technology, renewed Doppler techniques, satellite radar altimetry, massive usage of the Global Positioning System (GPS), etc. Each of these techniques is optimally tailored to a specific type of application or scien...
متن کاملOn the use of Ajisai and Jason-1 satellites for tests of General Relativity
In this paper we analyze in detail some aspects of the proposed use of Ajisai and Jason-1, together with the LAGEOS satellites, in order to measure the general relativistic Lense-Thirring effect in the gravitational field of the Earth. A suitably designed linear combination of the nodes of such satellites which cancels out, by construction, the first three even zonal harmonics of the Newtonian ...

We present a test of general relativity, the measurement of the Earth's dragging of inertial frames. Our result is obtained using about 3.5 years of laser-ranged observations of the LARES, LAGEOS, and LAGEOS 2 laser-ranged satellites together with the Earth gravity field model GGM05S produced by the space geodesy mission GRACE. We measure [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is the Ea...
متن کاملModeling spin parameters of Ajisai, LARES and the other geodetic satellites with SLR data
The Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) data allows for the spin parameters determination of the fully passive, geodetic satellites. We have spectrally analyzed the long time series of the Full Rate SLR data delivered by the global network of the SLR stations and obtained information on the spin parameters, and the spin evolution, of the following satellites: Ajisai, LAGEOS-1, LAGEOS-2, LARES, Larets...
متن کاملIs it possible to improve the present LAGEOS Lense–Thirring experiment?
The Lense-Thirring effect is currently being measured by means of a combination of the orbital residuals of the nodes of LAGEOS and LAGEOS II and the perigee of LAGEOS II. The total error is of the order of 20%. The most insidious systematic error is due to the mismodelled even zonal harmonics of the geopotential and amounts to 12.9%, according to EGM96 model. The role and the importance of the...
